About the Model:
We’ve partnered with North Shore, Oahu surfer Ollie Fix to create the ultimate soft top high performance shortboard; DA WIZARD. We took the standard CHUB shape which was already performing incredibly well in high performance wave pools, reinforced the deck and rails and added a center fin box with TWO removable fin options (both included). The first is a 2″ trailer fin and the second is a 3.5″ fin. This board can be ridden three different ways easily–as a twin fin (remove center fin) to slide the tail out more, with the 2″ fin for a little bite on turns (most common use), or the 3.5″ fin for better hold on a steep face of a larger wave (barrels, etc.)
The result is a board that is versatile for many uses (oceans, wave pools, river surfing, etc.) and can combine high performance with the ability to stand up to abuse.
DA WIZARD has been developed over many hours of testing at The Lineup wave pool in Hawaii and in barreling waves on the North Shore. It is a rare combination of value, durability, and capability, and has proven itself by being tested, improved, and regularly ridden by some of the best wave pool surfers in the world.
CONSTRUCTION: Two marine wooden stringers are coated with an epoxy nano-coating to resist water absorption, then surrounded with a proprietary EPS foam and a color-fast & UV resistant soft top layer that is thicker than our other models to withstand repeated airs and stomping. Additional tail reinforcement + a thicker underlayment also bulk up the board for durability. The soft top has a wide texture and doesn’t require wax, although wax will improve grip. All Rock-It surfboards come with a one year warranty against manufacturing defects.
ENVIRONMENT: Made with a focus on durability using environmentally sensitive manufacturing processes. Heat laminated with no harmful dyes, glues, resins or toxins in the production process, and manufactured in a facility that uses collected rainwater. All materials used are recyclable.
SEA-CAMO ZEBRA STRIPED BOTTOM
Why the Stripes? In 2013 a University of Western Australia neurobiologist conducted research that indicated a zebra striped pattern was a deterrence to sharks & presented their results in a Ted Talk. The patterns disperse the shark’s ability to identify the item, and mimic non-food source items in their environment. Of course there are no guarantees, but if there is an indication something could be safer, why not do it?!
