The template of this board was originally designed by Dick Brewer in 1963, becoming what would be known as “The Pipeliner”, which was surfed by Butch Van Atrsdalen the following year. Gerry Lopez claims that this was “probably the first performance longboard ever made” (Surfers Journal Vol 1 – 2). This modified version takes on the characteristics of a modern performance board with down rails and a concave bottom. The ‘63 is a versatile longboard that can handle a wide variety of conditions.
