Randy Rarick is a true surfing pioneer—born in Seattle in 1949, raised in Honolulu, and surfing since age 10 under the guidance of Waikīkī Beach Boy Rabbit Kekai. His career spans professional competition, surfboard crafting, event organizing, and global surf travel—to over 60 countries. He helped found the IPS (precursor to today’s WSL), served decades as executive director of the Triple Crown of Surfing, and shaped boards for legends like Dick Brewer and George Downing. Even after all that, Rarick still returns every winter to Sunset Beach and remains hands-on in surf design and culture.
